Durability of the security seal:

A seal should be selected that will survive any hostile environments where it will be used. For example, an environment near salt water may warrant the use of a plastic or stainless steel seal rather than a metal seal that is prone to corrosion over a long period of time. Seal corrosion could impair the detection of tampering. If a metal seal is required in a corrosive environment (i.e. forced entry requirement), it could corrode in a short period of time. Length of use is an important factor in the selection process to avoid corrosion issues. Consider using a bolt seal that is encased in a plastic covering that protects against corrosion such as the security Seals procured using Reference 1 are required to meet minimum levels of corrosion resistance. The strength of seals is determined by testing using standard specifications. Any seal selected should meet the testing requirements detailed in References and security seal manufacturers should ensure conformance to the requirements through verification by a certified testing laboratory.
